Hi everyone, I’m so excited to share with you the details of Baby S’s nursery. It came out so cozy and soft on the senses, and I’m quite proud I did it all myself.  It took A LOT of time to research and make decisions, decisions I wanted to be intentional with.

As always, I try to make conscious, ethical, nontoxic choices – but I’m not perfect.  I’ve included everything we chose, why we chose them, and other cute things along the way.

I hope you love it — and most of all, I hope baby S loves it!

Floors: Rugs vs. Carpet

I’ve said it once I’ve said it again. I love wall-to-wall carpet.  Our house also happens to have dark wood floors — and I get very itchy at dark wood, even though many people consider it beautiful.  I know wall-to-wall means you bring in glues and other less toxic things, but there’s just something about a covered room I’ll never get over. I went with a local company and chose a vegan (non-wool) carpet that’s super soft. If you’re in Long Island, I used Campbell’s Carpet and I found them lovely to work with.

Alternatively, I’ve SINCE found a great company, called Organic Weave, that offers quality nontoxic rugs and wall-the-wall carpet. Not only is it GOTS certified (3rd party tested to ensure organic and non-harmful chemicals) it also requires that workers, including farmers and fabricators, are treated fairly!

I’ll def be working with this company for other rooms in the house and scoring some great area rugs!

You can trust they use organic fibers, natural dyes, no pesticides, flame retardants, toxic detergents and harmful chemicals. They are crafted by HAND. They offer both organic cotton and wool too.  You can do custom orders — designs, shapes, and colors OR buy what they have. I was able to get a code for you all too. CODE: LISA for 5% off.

Crib

Belle Upholstered Conversion Crib Aged White from Restoration Hardware in Vintage Velvet

I just loved the sweetness of this crib, and the fact it can convert to a toddler bed. Because cribs can’t have things like bumpers, pillows, or blankets, I liked that this crib could stand on its own, providing a pleasing aesthetic without me having to add a thing.

Note: it did take a few months to arrive after ordering.

Perks:

  • Greenguard Certified
  • Converts into a Bed

Mattress

Naturepedic Organic Breathable Ultra 2-Stage Baby Crib Mattress

Like many, I was torn between Naturepedic and the Newton Baby. In sum, it seems both great options and Greenguard Certified.

The main difference is that Naturepedic mattresses are waterproof, whereas Newton only has that feature in one variety. Naturepedic also has a firm base (thanks to the innerspring coil) whereas Newton doesn’t use any foam, spring, glue, or latex.

Bedding

Kyte Baby (@KyteBaby) makes amazing sheets from bamboo. Bamboo fibers are hypoallergenic and antimicrobial. They are also breathable – so they should keep the baby cool and undisturbed. We ordered a few different ones in organic cotton but the softness of Kyte was unbeatable.

Chair for Mom + Baby

Classic Camelback Slipcovered Swivel Glider from Restoration Hardware

There are a bunch of great options out there, but what was important for me was being able to sit on the glider prior to purchasing. That’s why I went with the one from RH — I was able to get to a store (so many of the stores don’t keep their items in stock) and actually get a feel for the chair. I love how the back is high, the chair is soft, and it’s also pretty wide. I love the matching ottoman and foresee it as an extra place to sit in the baby’s room.  I went with white, despite the “danger” because milk is white and that seemed most logical for any potential staining that can happen in this area.

Perks: it glides AND swivels!

The Toco Swivel Glider Babyletto and Joya from Crate&Kids are two other great options!

Dresser with Attached Changing Table

Marcelle Wide Dresser and Topper Set in Heirloom White from Restoration Hardware

Bassinet

Design Dua Bassinet

I love this bassinet. It is handwoven in Ghana, and the company pays the weavers at or above minimum wage. We went with the vegan option, so there are no leather handles. We also got the wooden rocker that goes with it.

Air Purifier

Dyson

If you’re adding any sort of furniture, painting, wallpapering, carperting, or doing any construction, I can’t recommend the Dyson purifier enough. It detects and traps pollutants inside and can reach around the room. It auto shuts on and off as needed, and can be used in any room you need!

Decor

So many beautiful patterns, I went with XXX

Aura Quartz Healing Crystal Chandelier

This is such a wow piece. Each unique crystal possesses a different level of shine and glimmer, yet it’s soft and soothing. (Note: hang this away from any place the baby will be directly under, or could possibly grab.)

Alternative: this is a more low-key version that I purchased and almost went with that’s smaller in size, and uses beautiful selentine.

Bunny on the Moon + Stars Mobile

Alternative: hot air balloon mobile! (Also love the Pehr Llama Mobile + Stork Mobile.)

Blush Velvet Bench

This was actually in my office in our apartment in DC. I love a good recycled piece that holds up. It looks way more expensive than it is, and is just so neutral and soft in color. Also pictured is the Heart Wall Hanging.

Tapestry Created by Alyssa Chase @findyoursails (You can check out her work and do a custom over at @reveriefiberart.  Her highlight has the process!), and the Ariana Ost Rainbow Sunburst Crystal Wall Hanging.

And of course, I won’t forget to pay the baby tax. <3
