During quarantine, my left eye began to twitch – it twitched for fricken 6 weeks straight. As you can imagine, I was going insannneee. While this has been previously linked to stress, or emotional purging, I was desperate to speed up the healing and make it go away. Truly nothing worked besides time and stress management, but along the way I discovered a really cool and EFFECTIVE way to open up the lymph in my neck.
Please note I’m not expert in lymphatic drainage- like, at all, or facial massage.
But when I find things we can all do (not to mention for free) to feel the shift, I share!!! This is about being more connected to your body- being awake in supporting it, and recognizing that the little things we do support our overall wellbeing.
The lymph system: it’s a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste, and unwanted materials. It moves the waste away from the tissues/organs and into the bloodstream where the liver can take over to do any filtering to make sure the body is clean. It’s a big part of the body’s immune system, so naturally, supporting it is something we can do for our wellbeing (although most people on instagram are simply doing the lymphatic drainage body massage for the ‘slimming’ effects).
Over the past year, the guasha tool has become a game changer for me and my skincare routine. A few months ago I switched to the one from WILDLING (if sold out on CREDO, which it often is, you can get it on wildling site) and I’m loving it. The ridges and different edges have encouraged me to finally become more intuitive and less mechanical about the process. Maybe that was just time and getting more comfortable rubbing a stone on my face… either way, it’s pretty! It’s a BIAN stone, which is said “to emit ultrasound pulsations, far infrared rays, and negative ions as a result of the cosmic impact — all of which are known for their antioxidant and anti-aging effects on cells and DNA” – take it or leave it, I personally love it, and I see a difference. I recommend keeping it in a case as it chips easily too. Whenever people ask me “does guasha really work?” My answer is YES, totally worth the hype BUT, you can’t just buy it. You need to USE it. The more I use it the more pleased I am, when I slack- I notice.
Anyway, back to the point! While learning to try and how to heal my eye, I learned a lot about self-facial massage. My face was getting SO MUCH LOVE, and yet, the twitch was relentless. I could manage it for some time using self-massage– but ultimately, it returned. One video, which I cannot find, talked about PRE massage and opening the lymph system.
I’ve gotten professional guasha and facial massage before (I recommend NOY SKINCARE in NYC), and I’ve experienced professionals spending lots of time opening it up before getting into it. But on my own- I never felt like I was doing anything other than going through the motions- blah and boring.
But when I did THIS technique, using just my hands- I FELT IT. and so, I haven’t looked back.
I started to combine it with my paddle from DeLaHeart, and I’m so pleased with the experience.
I’m not one to do things/promote things that are trendy unless I have results myself– and being able to feel the difference has changed the game for me.
For me, this is all about feeling empowered in my body. When I can actively support it (after all, it supports me most of the time!!), I feel so deeply connected and aligned– and that’s what its about.
This is the oil I used. It’s a thicker oil, very healing for dry skin. Be generous with whatever you use so you’re not tugging at the skin.
Most importantly ~BE gentle~ the lymph doesn’t require force, and there are important veins/arteries in this area.
